from last night when most people went to bed, hurricane watch now issued for the virginia coastline in addition to most of the north carolina. got a map to show you. we'll take another quick look at earl. surf city, north carolina to paramour island, that is under a hurricane watch. the watch has been extended. don't be surprised if later today, it is not extended further north up into maryland, maybe new jersey, up into southern new england later this afternoon. 125miles per hour. that makes it a category three storm. it has lost a little steam overnight. still a very formidable, very powerful hurricane. so tracking off to the north and west at 16 miles per hour. it will be just off outer banks by overnight thursday into friday morning. so we'll see how things start to go downhill here over the next couple of days. for us, just a hot one. right now, we are in the 70s. 76 at reagan national. 70 in baltimore. 71 for you in ocean city. our forecast is easy. lots of sunshine. it will be hot this afternoon with highs back in the middle 90s. 95 intown. 96 in waldorf. 94, one of the coole

as it was a few hours ago. want to mention a hurricane watch has now been extended for the virginia coastline up to just south and east of ocean city. let's get to local weather. we are mild. 77degrees. humidity, 64%. winds are out of the south and west at five miles per hour. pressure down a little bit. this area of happen that has been giving us the heat starting to break down. winds will shift a little bit today. this will be the last day of extreme heat as we get into tomorrow and particularly friday. things will start to cool off a little bit as earl approaches here. one more hot afternoon. 95degrees. only a code orange air quality. that is a little better than yesterday. >> earl will cool things down for us toward the end of the week. >> the cool front will cool us down. more on that in a minute. >> okay. >> let's get a look at traffic with lauren demarco. >> right now, light volume helping us out. can you take a live look out there at 66 courtesy of trafficland as you head inbound. no problems through manassas approaching route 50 fair oaks. we have reports of a disabled vehicle blocking

at stories making headlines this morning. a lorton, virginia, community mourning the loss of a young mother and two of her children. they were killed in a house fire yesterday. 24-year-old ally anderson was able to save three of her five kids by lowering them down to her uncle on the ground. >>> theresa lewis will be executed in virginia tonight. the first punishment of this type for a woman in the commonwealth in a century. she was sentenced to death for providing sex and money to two men who killed her husband and her stepson back in october of 2002. so far the governor has decided not to grant clemency. lewis is scheduled to be put to death by ion at 9:00 p.m. at a correctional facility in jarrett. >>> gray and michelle rhee scheduled to meet. it will be a closed discussion at city hall at noon today. gray has said that her future in the position would lie heavily based on this conversation today. >>> 7:16 right now. got some city business. now some business that all of us are going to want to listen to. >> hot and humid. we're going to have to open up the pools again. >> why do they shu

:16. a hurricane watch has been extended to virginia beaches. it's creeping up the coast. it's a matter of timing and expecting conditions within the next 36-48 hours as we're a day and a half away from the storm impact us weather-wise. waves will build up today and tomorrow and then really especially as they head through friday morning. there's hurricane earl, fiona lagging behind. winds now 125 miles per hour. it's a category 3 storm, weaker than it was just yesterday, but it's still a major hurricane and still chugging to the northwest at 14 miles per hour, which means it's a fast-moving system and although it's slowing down a little bit, it's still expected to be a fast pass as it rolls up the east coast. that was a fast transition. i want to show you what we're expecting. winds forecast to be 120 miles per hour when it's off the north carolina coastline, and the actual hurricane force winds in this deeper shading here, it's 90 miles across clipping the outer banks, will it clip ocean this? the next time frame is the evening hours through saturday morning. we're right on the edge in ocean cit

through virginia beach and north carolina and outer banks where they're expecting the biggest blow from earl. there's the cold front itself. we have high pressure off the coast and running into the heat. this cold front is going to end the heat. but they're helping to steer earl. earl is expected to clip its way across the out are banks of the carolinas. cape hatious may feel some mild hurricane-force winds. the model shows that it doesn't really reach ocean city we'll be in this little zone between both systems. it does help to push the storm off the shore. 150 miles away from ocean city they may get outer are rain band and squalls and probably winds 40, 50 miles an hour. but nothing from earl in baltimore. today's high 95. a little cool down to 93. earl passing together east and maybe a thundershower in the eastern shore and 86 on friday with winds increasing. but the temperatures dropping off in the low zeros over the weekend -- low 80s over the weekend and we should stay nice and dry through labor day. one little blip that we call earl. >> say yes, you agree. >> i agree. >> we'll sw
